Likupang sits at the northern tip of Sulawesi, roughly two hours from Manado by road. The area has been designated a special tourism economic zone, and unlike long-busy Bunaken, its beaches are still wide open. What it offers is not a marine park but coastline and hills — grassland running straight down to the sea, and long stretches of white sand.

These three days put you in Likupang first, so there is no two-hour round trip every day. Day one crosses to Lihaga Island, day two traces Pulisan Hill and Pal Marinsow Beach before returning to Manado for the night. The last day is spent around the city — a temple, an old church, and the seafront Boulevard.

What makes it worth it

  • The grassland of Pulisan Hill running down to the sea
